A new mural is joining Ashford’s mural trail!
Ashford’s much-loved mural trail, first launched on 31 March 2023, is getting a fresh new addition. Chris Dixon, Head of Arts and Culture at Ashford Borough Council, has arranged for a brand-new artwork to be created in the town centre, and we can’t wait to see it come to life. Artist Will Barras started work on Monday, 22 June.
Will Barras is a London-based artist, illustrator and animation director. Originally from Birmingham, he studied graphic design in Bristol and became part of the city’s well-known street art scene.
He is known for his flowing, energetic style and was a founding member of the Scrawl collective, which helped shape the UK’s urban art movement. His work also appeared in the influential 1999 book Scrawl, alongside artists including Mr Jago and a young Banksy.
Since then, Will has exhibited and painted live across Europe, the US and Asia. More recently, he created a mural in the City of London, helping bring new life to the historic St Mary-le-Bow Church and the surrounding office and retail area.
It will be exciting to see Will’s style and personality come through in the new mural next week. It could also be a great chance for young Ashford artists to see him at work.
A spokesperson from Ashford Borough Council...
The mural is set to be under the international house (Dover PI, Ashford TN23 1HU) and should be completed within a weeks’ time. The creation will then be promptly added to the trail for not only Ashford residents to enjoy, but anyone who would like to see this piece and think outside the frame!
