Mr Doodle goes to town…

Ashford’s internationally-renowned artist Mr Doodle has created what is believed to be one of the world’s longest artworks – and his latest eye-catching creation is entertaining pedestrians and motorists alike near Ashford town centre.

The head-turning mural or doodle is a remarkable 203m long and was painted in just one day on Friday 6 December, with Mr Doodle defying challenging weather conditions!

Mr Doodle painting the black hoardings at the junction of Beaver Road, Avenue Jacques Faucheux and Victoria Road, one of the busiest entrances to the town centre. The site, opposite the railway station and the Hampton by Hilton hotel, has been earmarked for the borough’s tallest building, the Infinity residential apartments.

Mr Doodle was keen to add to his existing works of art in the town and last week asked Ashford Borough Council if it could help with a suitable site, explained ABC arts and cultural industries manager Chris Dixon.

“Mr Doodle was eager to work on the Infinity site hoardings, which is owned by our commercial housing arm, A Better Choice for Property, and it was happy to give permission. The following day Mr Doodle hit the ground running at 8am and remarkably completed the work in just one day. It looks fantastic.”

Council Chief Executive Tracey Kerly, who is also a Director of ABC for Property, added: “It's already created lots of interest and it's been lovely to see lots of selfies of passers-by on social media. It’s worth pointing out that this amazing public artwork has been delivered at absolutely no cost to the council – Mr Doodle is a huge fan of Ashford and did all this off his own back. He even repaired bits of the hoarding that needed it.

“Mr Doodle has told us he had so many nice and positive comments on the day and I think people will really enjoy the piece and how it’s brightened up this prominent and busy road junction in Ashford.”
