The Mayor of Ashford’s Thanksgiving Service for Her Majesty the Queen - a Community Celebration for All
The local community is warmly invited to attend The Mayor of Ashford’s Thanksgiving Service for Her Majesty the Queen.
This special event, which is taking place on Friday 3 June at St. Mary’s Church, Ashford town centre, will be a community celebration, in music and words to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
All seven decades of the Queen’s reign will be featured and will include music sung at the Queen’s coronation on the 2 June 1953, the words of Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate with the Jubilee Hymn, a reading from the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 and the Queen’s words from her Christmas Broadcast in 1996.
Members of local choirs from the Ashford borough including the Ashford Invicta Singers have joined together and will be participating in the service alongside young people from St Mary’s Primary School.
Musical highlights of the service will include, the Music for the Royal Fireworks, the Lord of the Dance, and as a finale, the Ark 2030 Anthem – ‘It Matters to Me’ written by Ashford residents Jenny Bailey and Chris Symons and performed by St Mary’s C or E Primary School. ‘It Matters to Me’ picks up on two themes that have been a constant during the Queen’s life – her great interest in our natural environment and creating a legacy for the future generations.
Guests should be seated for 1:45pm for a 2pm start and the service is due to finish at approximately 3:15pm after which tea and coffee will be served.
Also on display will be the Jubilee Blossom Tree, which has been created by artists from Animate Arts as part of the community arts project, ‘The Ashford Tree Trail’, and is being filled with goodwill messages to the Queen. Guests will have an opportunity to write their own personal message on seeded paper which will be planted out at a later date to create a small wild flower meadow.
